Southwest has officially gone live with its new fare product, Wanna Get Away Plus! This new fare class is supposed to hit the sweet spot between its existing Wanna Get Away leisure fare and its previous mid-tier offering, Anytime.

Southwest is hoping that this new fare class can grow its revenue/per-customer by offering a few extra perks over the standard Wanna Get Away fare class. While including all of the features that Southwest is known for, like two free check bags and no change fees, this new fare class provides flyers with 8x points earning on each fare, the ability to transfer flight credits between Rapid Rewards Members, same-day flight changes and the ability to be placed on the standby-list.

By offering a more flexible travel plan, Southwest is hoping to reach those customers who might want some additional assurance for the price of a slightly more expensive fare.

For an airline that is known for a simple flying experience, we will have to wait and see how this new fare class structure is received.
